SShreyas, 04 Aug 2021"There is only MORE MONEY to be earned by covering MORE USERS"
But then, that secti... moreBS.
Many markets do SUPER NICHE PRODUCTS, there are brands DEDICATED to that.
Look at Fanatec sim racing gears, they are already niche, but for those who don't know better they might be the nichest type of wheels, until you realize they are the tip of the iceberg, with some crazy stuff like handbrake with true hydraulic systems and other things like that.
Do you really think the LG Wing is more niche than most of the products here :
With a Boeing 737 yoke at over 1700€ or the 737 overhead panel at 2000€?
Or than a 2000€/$ VR treadmill, while some consider VR to be itself already niche?
Are you aware of the existence of video rearview mirror?
Or a stick of Siwak as a replacement for toothbrush?
Magnetic USB adapter?
Multiple necks electric guitars, self tuning electric guitar, or "true temperament" guitar frets ?
Those are all niche, and yet they sell.
Here I am not every talking about making a phone from the ground up, in fact, if diversity was a thing to begin with, phones would be built in a modular way, allowing to simply make sub variant without requiring to re-create a new phone every times, nor to code a new variant of the OS specifically for this device.
OEMs don't care about it, but it would make the user's life much easier, even with low cross compatibility and no swappable/upgradable components.
It would be EASY for them to make both a flat and curved edge variant of a phone, one with a bezel, another with a punch hole, another with UDC, and one without front camera.
In fact, niches, even tiny one, are now regarded as one of the profitable type of market.
But again, in EVERY MARKETS, people DON'T CARE and DON'T MIND when product not made for them are released alongside those they are looking for, it ONLY causes issue in the smartphone community, hence why it is THE ONLY market where things could be extremely diverse, but all products are the same with minimum variations.
INCLUDING highly demanded ones.
The Pocophone, a smartphone with a high-end SoC but everything else to the minimum to keep the price low, it is a demanded thing, smaller phones that aren't low end or high end but with poor price to features compared to other models as the iPhone 12 Mini did, also highly demanded.
The 3.5mm Jack, you can't tell me you see no one asking for it... Same.
Popular demands that aren't even niches aren't even listened in this market, meanwhile you have products for the sub variant of a special version of an alternative of a not well known stuff that are available in many other markets.
Why? Read your comment again, and think about who asked, who cared, and more importantly, WHY you had to make this comment, and maybe you'll understand the awful influence constant comments like that made on this market.
Keep in mind that news outlets are read by investors who try to find out how a product is liked or not, the goal being to know where to put his money or to pressure companies into doing or not doing things he think will affect his portfolio.
OF COURSE with comments like that all the investors, and the impossibility for market analysts to do their job will lead to a TOTAL LACK of any form of s*** given by OEMs about what users want.
In comparison, the smartphone market is like if 99% of all car model available where the same size of compact with the same engine specs (only few per price range), fuel type, car's options, number of seats and doors, and when someone ask for a minivan because he have "big" stuff to move or someone with a big family who would want a monospace, car enthusiast would get angry at him for wanting "something weird".
Demongornot, 03 Aug 2021This is because of stupid low reasoning like that which we actually have no diversity.
Let... more"There is only MORE MONEY to be earned by covering MORE USERS"
But then, that section of "more users" should be of considerable size. And that "niche" audience is way too small to recover the money spent on these.
LG's Wing was practically useless. Who would pay twice the money for a gimbal? One can get a DJI for like $200 which would last them years.
Similar was the situation with that modular phone (can't remember name), too.
G8X also failed to impress much audience, either.
As I said, marketing, after sales services, etc. also plays their part. But their investments in such projects and almost no return from that, was also a big reason.
And there are high chances of these experimental projects to fail. So, investing in these projects will definitely mean that the brand has to scrap some failed ones, too.
Dudenoway, 02 Aug 2021Man no one else execpt for u, shheryas guy and dometicilan(idk spelling) comment. I know u try... moreComment held by mods because of links, but literally, I answered about that to SShreyas, and the answer is, no, I am far from the only one.
On GSMArena? Yes, that's actually why I almost only do defend the pop up, because it is the website with the most uneducated people and where the most toxic smartphone community is, having harmed in a lot of ways the diversity of the smartphone market by hating on anything not trending.
And I'll keep defending this tech.
Why me, who literally defend something that haters have pushed near extinction which they could have EASILY looked away as it wouldn't have done anything to them, is the one who need to keep it quiet, but you don't say anything to those?
If a colorblind ask for a colorblind mode in a SINGLEPLAYER GAME, which could, because of the way the game is made, be implemented in few hours, easily, and not cause any issues or bugs, and it is totally optional, but they were people who, for absolutely no valid reasons at all, hated on the idea and clearly say they don't want it to be implemented.
Would you REALLY say that the colorblind just better accept that totally unrelated people who have nothing to do with it can just force him to not be able to play the game while they could just ignore it?
Or simply say to the haters they are wrong, or just say nothing?
I don't care if a "bloat" the comment session, which by the way is EXACTLY THERE FOR THIS PURPOSE, but everytime you answer me about this subject in any negative form, you are yourself taking part at it.
If people complain that I reply, they can just NOT answer me, that's simple enough.
SShreyas, 01 Aug 2021Why would anyone create unique looking smartphones when they could just go with the trend and ... moreThis is because of stupid low reasoning like that which we actually have no diversity.
Let's me repeat one more time :
EVERY MARKETS EXCEPT THE SMARTPHONE INDUSTRY COVER EVERYTHING FROM MAINSTREAM TO NICHE!!!
There is only MORE MONEY to be earned by covering MORE USERS.
LG is a totally different thing, and Mrwhosetheboss perfectly explained why they failed, it is NOT because they made innovations, it is because they were wasting money making them for ditching them afterward without letting it having a chance to improve, and their naming and brand image was extremely wonky and inconsistent.
And in the end, they actually LACKED diversity too.
Demongornot, 31 Jul 2021No, YOU were the one who came to me trying to say pop up camera are unreliable : https://www.... moreMan no one else execpt for u, shheryas guy and dometicilan(idk spelling) comment. I know u try to defend pop up and that is completely fine but listen. If u rlly are defending any tech and u know u have a point. Don't comment till they do 2 comment then u reply back. Maybe others can help u revive pop up if u let other comment too instead of just bloating the comemnt section cuz of the people who are arguing. Haters will be every where and I myself dont defend most of the brand instead I just listen to comment sif I think something is wrong I only reply then. Otherwise I just stick to the topic and not bashing or fanboying.
SShreyas, 01 Aug 2021Why would anyone create unique looking smartphones when they could just go with the trend and ... moreMissed the part where that concerns me as a consumer. As far as I'm concerned, a punch hole is one of the worst looks in terms of implimenting the bezel-less look. If a phone isn't practical or doesn't have the specs I look for, I simply won't buy it. Couldn't care less about their market share.
Hence why I try to buy local instead of chains.
Demongornot, 01 Aug 2021That's funny because everywhere I watch, I see plenty, from Twitter, GSMArena or any othe... moreI don't know which fake website you are visiting and claiming that it is GSMArena. The last post about a pop up camera was regarding Legion 2 Pro. And apparently, in 2021, that's the only article regarding pop up camera.
Don't live in fool's paradise like those fanboys (one of whom even refused to acknowledge that Samsung have any smartphone other than S21 with 3+1 years of updates). The craze for pop-up is gone with 2018. Better forget about it or you'll be writing useless articles in comment section.
Well, the second point is my justification for that "*weird habit* of using phones for a decade"
Do you realise that I have avoided AMOLED displays like a plague? None of my phones have it. And it was the primary reason to go for Mi 10T Pro that I purchased in June, 2021. I avoid MediaTek also the same way since I have had way too bad experience with it. And in future I will avoid HMD also because I faced serious reliability issues with it (charging port (thrice), motherboard and eMMC issues)
Battery? Dude we have 10k mAh power banks for less than $10 available here in India. That is, if we don't want to change the battery. But I don't think that repairing a pop up would ever be that cheap.
Dometalican, 01 Aug 2021I wouldn't mind pop up. In fact, I just want the smartphone world to be different from ea... moreWhy would anyone create unique looking smartphones when they could just go with the trend and earn more?
Those were the days when there was no option except Nokia. So, they never had anyone to lose from. In today's scenario, going out of the way might land you in a pit like LG.
Phones should be practical, imo. That's why new entrants like OnePlus gained momentum comapred to established players like LG.
Sure, marketing also plays it's part. But LG invested way more than required in RnD and created phones that were unique but not practical.
SShreyas, 01 Aug 2021I haven't encountered a SINGLE person, apart from you on this GSMArena or any other forum... moreThat's funny because everywhere I watch, I see plenty, from Twitter, GSMArena or any other news articles where the subject is about pop up or phones who used to be pop up, many raise their voice and say they miss it.
I am just a part of the tiny loud minority of the many who love pop up, which considering there is a big loud minority of the many who don't care about it who actually spread hate about it, isn't an issue and a much needed balancing act.
If people were not hating FOR NO REASONS on it, I wouldn't even talk about it in the first place.
And again, I'd prefer a phone without any front camera over pop up, I am not "dying for it", I am just rightfully defending it from people who think it is okay to nail down a rare and dying thing.
Even on this article who isn't about pop up at all (meaning no one has any reasons to talk about it) you've got someone else who proved you wrong.
For the second point, I don't know what you are on, but you answered to something I never said...
For the third point, do you realize that OLED have burn-in, electronic components wear down, and the battery, even without using it, wears down?
And how the pop up who never showed any signs of unreliability or wear after 3 years of use make your "it is unreliable" assumption more valid than mine while display, battery and electronic DO indeed die out?
SShreyas, 01 Aug 2021I haven't encountered a SINGLE person, apart from you on this GSMArena or any other forum... moreI wouldn't mind pop up. In fact, I just want the smartphone world to be different from each other again like in the early 2000s. A gaming phone with a curved screen? WTH is that garbage?
Lenovo Legion 2 isn't getting enough love. At least THAT'S different.

https://www.... moreI haven't encountered a SINGLE person, apart from you on this GSMArena or any other forums who is dying for pop ups. So, "many" wants it, is just a ridiculous statement of yours.
"A fool and his money aren't friends for too long"
I have a good no. of investments in stock market. And everything I buy, I intend to squeeze every drop of it, including one of the most depreciating asset, called smartphone.
P.S: Except for two utter pieces of trash, all my devices are working normal. And my list includes, 2012 Tab 2 10.1, OnePlus One, HTC 816 and Nokia X6 from 2009.
So "any phone will have reliability issues at that point" is another assumption of yours. Of course, until you use your phone as hammer or something like that.

And now that the firsts phones with pop up passed the 3 year mark and not only has really few cases of issues (which is perfectly within any product's usual defective units and user poor care range) and still works flawlessly and don't show any signs of wear whatsoever, I won't show anything else than pride saying "I told you so".
YOU are the one with unusual habits wanting to keep phones for a decade, ANY phones has unreliability issues at this point.
"and I wish nobody revives them" That just prove how awful of a person you are, wishing that something YOU CAN PERFECTLY IGNORE AND JUST NOT BUY, but many others do want, will die out.
This is because of people like you who could have just STFU in the first place that I do it, so don't cry about it now.
Once people will understand how awful the UDC thing really is, pop up and phones without front camera will become a thing once more.
And if it isn't the case, I'll make my own darn phone and enjoy watching people having to deal with the stupidity they preached.
Meanwhile, as long as it isn't too old, I'll enjoy my Poco F2 Pro who don't have any issues whatsoever with its pop up.

Nevertheless, pop ups are dead (and I wish nobody revives them). Leave your obsession with it.
Anonymous, 30 Jul 2021Man you need to stop it with the whole pop up camera thing. In every article I see you arguing... moreGo say that to the idiots who seem even more into bashing the pop up every time they can, which lead to the pop up being almost entirely ditched and may disappear.
It was a good alternative for those who didn't want the punch holes and notches horror and would have been a good one for those not wanting the UDC gimmick, yet the haters literally threaten it as if the pop up ruined smartphones for them while they had 99% of the market to choose from, while arrogantly, at the same time, treating everyone complaining about their beloved butchered display as if they were criminals, despite those holes/notches being the actual invader who didn't lets any room for other options.
I prefer phones without front facing camera, and I also advocate them too, but people are even more stupid about it, constantly talking about video call as if it was a vital need.
So as long as people still stupidly spread total BS about the pop up, that I've all proven wrong through maths, real life evidences, and A + B logic, while what they say don't even match a little the reality, as long as pop up are still a rarity, as long as phones without front camera are constantly bashed for absolutely no reasons and aren't available in decent numbers, and as long as the future point out at UDC as being the ONLY option we will have...
I will NOT stop, I am on a darn crusade as I fight for what I desire against people who just want to ruin things that won't affect them in the slightest if it exists or not.
That's funny how the android market and community is SO messed up that fighting for having a chance to get one of the feature you like make you the bad guy, but people hating on those features or anything that isn't trending (from brands, like anti LG and anti Sony love to do, techs like anti-Jack or anti 3D face recognition do, or software feature like anti-slow charging OPTIONAL mode do) for absolutely no reasons is seen as totally normal...
Sorry for liking something out off logic and not out of "people like it, so I must like it too" reasoning and which is disappearing, so I try to fight the cause of it, I hope I don't bother you too much by trying to not be a sheep and trying to get something I like and want.

the damm curved screen
this type of screens have many negative point like :
The usable surface is less compared to the flat screen
Some control buttons in games are located in the curved part of the screen and are difficult to access
not good whene watching movie
and Low resistance
